Calling all "Twilight" fans! MTV has got a triple-layer treat for you in the form of exclusive interviews with your favorite three stars during our "MTV First: Breaking Dawn - Part 1."
On Thursday, November 3, at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV, we will premiere a never-before-released clip from the hugely anticipated new film live on-air, to be introduced by megastars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
Immediately following the introduction and premiere of the clip, Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner will be sticking around for a lengthy Q&A session with MTV News' Josh Horowitz — a chat that begins on air and continues on MTV.com. Who knows what will happen when the three stars actually get together in one room, because separately they've had some very intriguing things to say about one another. In recent conversations, RPattz has compared his sex scenes to "playing Twister," while KStew has revealed that Taylor began one of their fight scenes by confessing to his co-star, "You're so cute."
Fans can get in on the anything-might-happen conversation immediately by submitting video or text questions beginning Thursday (October 27) via MTV.com or via Twitter (using @MTVNews, plus the hashtags #AskTwilight and #MTVFirst).
Also launching today is our fan-voted poll of the Top Five Favorite "Twilight Saga" Moments thus far, including Edward and Bella's first kiss in "Twilight," the infamous Jacob abs-reveal in "New Moon," Edward and Jacob in the tent in "Eclipse," the fan-favorite "leg hitch" scene in "Eclipse" and Edward proposing to Bella in "Eclipse." Beginning on Monday, October 31, the clips will be revealed in order of popularity.

It's hard to escape what everyone else is saying about the stars of "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" — whether it's fans gossiping about Rob and Kristen or teen girls fawning over Taylor's abs — but what do the three biggest stars from "Twilight" have to say about one another?
We've looked through stories from our years of "Twilight" coverage and compiled our 10 favorite quotes that Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have said about each other in advance of our "MTV First" with the cast of "Breaking Dawn" on Thursday, November 3 at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV.
Here is what the stars had to say:
» "She's more stubborn than me in a lot of ways. She really stands up for what she thinks is right. It's generally on the same page with what I think is right, but I never have the balls to do it." — Rob on Kristen during "New Moon"
» "She looked amazing. I really didn't do anything much but just stand there." — Rob on Kristen in her "Breaking Dawn" wedding dress
» "I didn't see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting ['New Moon']. When he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, 'Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!' " — Rob on Taylor's "New Moon" abs
» "It's fun to watch with [Taylor Lautner], because we actually sit and watch it. Me and Taylor are actual 'Twilight' fans, so we can sit there and be totally into it! Whereas I sit there with Rob ... he likes it, but he has just such a different energy." — Kristen on watching "Twilight" with Taylor
» "You're so cute." — Taylor on Kristen
» "I don't feel like kissing you!" — Rob to Kristen at the MTV Movie Awards
» "It was really fun to see Kristen try and act all tough, and she's a vampire and she's chucking me across the yard into trees. It was funny." — Taylor on Kristen throwing him around in "Breaking Dawn"
» "It's not tough when you're working with someone like this. She's extremely talented, and we get along really, really well." — Taylor on working with Kristen during "Breaking Dawn"
» "He's really buff! He definitely is. It took him a lot of time." — Kristen on Taylor
» "It's just totally false ... Rob and I are good friends." — Kristen on rumored relationship with Rob
Don't miss "MTV First" with Rob, Kristen and Taylor on Thursday, November 3, at 7:56 pm ET on MTV, when the stars will introduce a never-before-seen clip from "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" and answer your questions afterward on MTV.com.

'Saw' serial killer 'basically a regular guy' the audience can respect, horror expert says. So, how does he rank among movie murderers?
By Kara Warner
John Kramer, known as Jigsaw, in "Saw"
Photo: Lions Gate Films
This week's horror-movie-themed bloodletting continues with Day 4 of MTV's Killer Halloween, an in-depth competition in which we ask you, the best and brightest fans, to vote on who is the boldest, baddest and scariest movie murderer.
Which horror-movie baddie has the best personality? Make your pick in our MTV Movies Blog poll!
Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Chucky, Michael Myers and Ghostface all have received spotlight treatment, and now it's time to turn the focus toward a seriously scary mass-murderer: Jigsaw.
Jigsaw
Name: John "Jigsaw" Kramer, so nicknamed for his practice of cutting puzzle pieces out of the flesh of victims who didn't "pass" his deadly tests in the "Saw" movie franchise
Occupation: Civil engineer turned sadistic self-appointed judge of others' life choices
Weapons: Practical home-improvement items found at a local Home Depot or Lowe's, along with the aid of a few helping hands here and there
Archenemy: People who waste or don't appreciate their lives, laziness
Profile: Kramer is a former civil engineer who is dying from colon cancer. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, he suddenly gains a new appreciation for life and sets out to make others appreciate what they have before it's too late. Unfortunately, and as is standard in all good horror flicks, his methods are a bit twisted. In an effort to test his victims' survival instincts, he crafts deadly and torturous traps that play upon his captives' character flaws. He doesn't really want his victims to die, but makes it nearly impossible for them to survive.
Horror-movie expert Ryan Turek, managing editor of ShockTillYouDrop.com, explains Jigsaw's brilliance: "Behind the flayed flesh and exposed guts his messy traps leave behind, Jigsaw does have a pretty solid message to pass along:
Live your life and live it right. It's up to the people he captures to survive the blades, gears and barbed wire of his contraptions," Turek told MTV News, adding that what separates Jigsaw from other horror-movie killers is the fact that he's basically a regular guy.
"That's something that the audience can invest in and be terrified of: that lurking behind this amiable face is something incredibly deranged. That somber, withering older guy in the corner? He's quietly eyeballing you and probably has a trap waiting for you somewhere. It also helps that he's smart," Turek continued. "This is a man with an education, and to a degree, you can respect him, which is a scary thought. Jigsaw's vicious tests get the audience engaged in a discussion about right and wrong. He forces people to better themselves. I'm waiting for the day 'The Jigsaw Challenge' reality show hits television. We're not that far off, are we?"

'Tower Heist' director tells MTV News he's 'hoping' to get sequel made, while Murphy seems to have counted out the movie franchise.
By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Eddie Murphy

There seems to be two varying opinions on whether "Beverly Hill Cop 4" will ever happen. Ask the attached director, Brett Ratner, and he'll tell you he wants to make it happen with Eddie Murphy. But the response is ... rather different if you put the same question to the A-list actor.
MTV News recently caught up with Ratner as he promoted "Tower Heist," out this Friday and starring yes, Murphy. The director sounded hopeful about another "Cop" sequel.
"I think one day, I'm hoping, because it is one of the most iconic characters ever," Ratner told us. "Eddie does not go anywhere in the world where they're not like, 'Axel Foley, what's up?' more than 'Eddie Murphy.' It is something that our hope and desire is to get it made."
Much like he did with MTV News, Ratner has spoken on several occasions about his hopes for a fourth movie featuring the legendary Axel Foley, a Detroit cop who finds himself solving crimes in the very posh Beverly Hills.
In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, however, Eddie Murphy tells the magazine that the possibilities for a fourth "Beverly Hills Cop" film are dead.
"They're not doing it," Murphy told the magazine. According to the actor, the proposed screenplays didn't really support the making of a new film. "None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong," Murphy says.
But Murphy has other ideas for the beloved character. "What I'm trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit," Murphy revealed. "I'd do the pilot, show up here and there."
Ratner himself acknowledged the challenges involved with revisiting the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise. "It's a hard nut to crack, especially since there are three that exist before that. It's a hard thing," Ratner admitted, before adding that the three films allow him to see what worked in the series and what didn't.

How does this tiny terror rank among classic horror-movie murderers like Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees? Vote in our poll!

Chucky from "Child's Play"

How do we love horror-movie villains? Let us count the ways via MTV's Killer Halloween, an in-depth competition in which we ask you, the best and brightest fans, to determine who is the best and scariest movie murderer.
Head over to our Movies Blog poll to rank the killers' weapons of choice!
So far, we've provided the vital stats of big, bad men Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Leatherface. Now, it's time to move on to a smaller, but equally vicious, killer: Chucky from "Child's Play."
Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray
Occupation: Serial killer, voodoo practitioner, plastic doll
Weapons: Whatever he has at his disposal, voodoo knife
Archenemy: Grownups, fire, people who won't let him take over their bodies
Profile: Chucky's story has all the fixings for horror-film flights of fancy. He, Charles Lee Ray, is a serial killer and voodoo practitioner who manages to transfer his soul into a "Good Guy" doll after he is fatally shot by a police detective. Chucky ends up in the hands of Andy Barclay, who very soon regrets the day his mother brought home the redheaded, freckled doll, as the pint-sized terror resumes his murderous ways.
As is custom for horror-movie antagonists, Chucky manages to survive all the attempts at ending his "life" — including being set on fire and shot — in order to terrorize more victims in "Child's Play 2," "Child's Play 3," "Bride of Chucky" and "Seed of Chucky."
Once again, we turn to horror movie expert Brian Collins, the dedicated man behind Horror Movie a Day, to explain Chucky's long-lasting appeal.
"Chucky is awesome because in addition to going after Andy or whoever in order to get a human body, he tends to kill a lot of jerks: mean teachers, sadistic Army barbers, even Britney Spears. So, there's a little more variety to his victims than the usual anonymous knife fodder in the "Friday the 13th" or "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies," he explained. "Plus, he swore a lot. Swearing toys are always funny."

Where does the 'Scream' baddie rank among other horror icons? We're polling you all week to find out!
By Eric Ditzian
Ghostface from "Scream"
Photo: Dimension Films
Ghostface better get on his cell phone and start scaring the crap out of fans, because three days into MTV's Killer Halloween, the know-it-all "Scream" psycho is trailing his blood-spilling cinematic brethren in our voter-driven, category-by-category analysis of horror-movie murderers.
In terms of weaponry, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers trumped Ghostface's knife. And when it came to style, the "Scream" dude's black gown and oblong, am-I-sad-or-psychotic mask couldn't outdo Freddy's striped sweater, Jason's hockey mask or Michael's white-washed, blank-faced mask of terror. But perhaps today is Ghostface's day to shine, for now we turn to personality, and here this killer might just shine (or die trying).
Which horror-movie baddie has the best personality? Make your pick in our MTV Movies Blog poll!
Ghostface
Occupation: Student(s), stay-at-home-mom, filmmaker
Weapons: Knife, deep knowledge of the horror genre, irony
Archenemy: Sidney Prescott, innocent people living near Sidney Prescott
Profile: From his first ominously flirty phone call with Drew Barrymore in the 1996 original, Ghostface announced himself as a killer of unique talents and iconic potential. Ever since, the question "What's your favorite scary movie?" has taken on an entirely different meaning.
The key thing that separates Ghostface from most other horror-movie killers is that he's never the same person twice. Sometimes he's one malicious woman with a troubled sense of right and wrong; other times, he's two friends with an itch to draw blood and get famous. The only consistencies are that mask-and-gown getup, an encyclopedic knowledge of horror flicks, and a vendetta against Sidney Prescott, the teary-eyed damsel in distress played by Neve Campbell. Poor Sidney just can't catch a break.
Yes, there is always something a little nonsensical about these shifting Ghostfaces. You're telling me Sidney's boyfriend and his best pal murdered her mom and then went on a Woodsboro-wide killing spree, because why exactly? A couple of kids go from pursuing normal teenage goals like getting drunk and getting laid to wanting to be famous so badly they're willing — and able! — to become crazy-eyed killas? It sounds odd to say when we're talking about a genre in which a child molester can enter the dreams of his victims, but Ghostface always falls a bit short when it comes to believability, if only because the "Scream" franchise takes place in a pop-culture-saturated world so close to our own.
What makes Ghostface a wicked cool bad guy, then, is not why he stabs, but how. Hyper-steeped in horror-movie lore, he appropriates clichés and, in the bloody process, reinvents them. But let's not get too academic here. Ghostface has got swag. He's funny as hell, and when you least expect it, when you're still laughing from your gut, he stabs you in it.
Where do you think Ghostface falls in the scope of horror-movie psychopaths? Let us know in the comments!

Duo return to MTV with new episodes tonight.

Beavis and Butt-Head
Photo: MTV
It's been almost 14 years since the slackest slackers of a generation, Beavis and Butt-head, filled the airwaves with their shenanigans, but when the duo return to television with new episodes Thursday (October 27), the MTV they return to is quite a different one.
Creator Mike Judge had to address the changes to the channel when deciding which direction to take the show in. Without music videos playing as regularly on MTV, there is less of an opportunity for Beavis and Butt-head to sit around and comment on them as they did during the show's original run. Reality shows like "Jersey Shore" and "16 and Pregnant" have replaced what were formerly blocks of music videos, and Judge said he wanted the new "Beavis and Butt-head" episodes to reflect that shift.
According to Judge, MTV reality shows comprise 60 percent of the content Beavis and Butt-head sit and watch now. The transition from music videos to reality programming has been an easy one for Judge. "I think it is easier taking shots at the reality shows than music videos," Judge said.
But Beavis and Butt-head didn't just make fun of the videos they watched. "In the beginning of the first run, I did a lot of what I would call taking shots at the videos," Judge said. "But then a lot of times I would just have them talk about whatever, and it didn't necessarily have that much to do about saying anything one way or another about the video."
Reality TV, on the other hand, is a different story. Judge has found that with the new crop of shows, the material is too ripe for ridicule to ignore. "With the reality shows, it just feels like pay dirt to me," Judge said. "Those shows have just been really fun to have Beavis and Butt-head watch."
Don't miss "Beavis and Butt-head" when it returns to TV Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Where does the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' baddie rank among other horror icons? We're polling you all week to find out!

Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984)
Photo: New Line Cinema
Get ready to scream! We're kicking off MTV's Killer Halloween — an in-depth competition to determine the best and scariest movie murderer — with "A Nightmare on Elm Street" baddie Freddy Krueger. Each day, we will offer up two of the fiercest competitors cinema has to offer, and we'll ask you to rank them on their deadliest attributes.
Head over to our Movies Blog poll to determine which horror icon has style to die for!
We've already seen "Freddy vs. Jason," so now it's up to you to decide who wins Freddy vs. Ghostface or Jason vs. Leatherface, etc. Face your fears and check back every day this week for two new killers and another chance to decide just who is the scariest of them all!
Freddy Krueger
Occupation: Plant worker, school janitor (remake)
Weapons: Razor fingers, dreams
Arch-Enemies: Nancy Thompson, Jason Voorhees, Red Bull
Profile: "One, two, Freddy's coming for you." With those words from a set of angelic-looking dream children, your fate is set. Freddy Krueger, the dream killer from Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series, will come at you with the unlimited power of your nightmares and not only take you out in your sleep but in the real world as well with his famous set of razor fingers.
Freddy got his start in 1984 with the original "Elm Street" movie. Famously played by horror legend Robert Englund, the killer known for his burn marks was a plant worker in Springwood who murdered children in the town. (He became a school janitor in the 2010 remake.) After a legal technicality allowed Freddy to walk away from the charges without a scratch, the parents of Springwood decided to take the law into their own hands. They killed Freddy, but that didn't stop him. Freddy returned to stalk the children of Springwood in their dreams. One by one, Freddy took his victims (including a young Johnny Depp in one particularly bloody scene), but he finally met his match in Nancy Thompson, his most famous victim.
Though Craven originally conceived of Freddy as a more serious psychopath, the character's humor came to define him in his later iteration, spouting off one-liners before taking his hapless teenage victims. The kills would take on elaborate and surreal methods.
In 2003, Freddy went toe-to-toe with another '80s horror icon, Jason Voorhees. They fought it out from Elm Street all the way to Camp Crystal Lake. The fight ended up too close to call, when Jason emerged from the water holding Freddy's head — which winked right before the credits rolled.
The remake didn't grab hold of audiences like Freddy previously did in the '80s, but it's never a good idea to count him out. He has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it.
Where do you think Freddy falls in the scope of horror-movie psychopaths? Let us know in the comments!

ABC fantasy series from 'Lost' writers/producers follows the lives of storybook characters forced to live in the real world.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
"Once Upon a Time" cast
Photo: ABC
The characters in the fairy tales you grew up listening to are people too. That's a big part of the story behind ABC's upcoming fantasy series "Once Upon a Time." From the minds of former "Lost" writers and producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, "Once Upon a Time" follows the lives of a number of storybook characters who find themselves trapped in the real world after a curse is placed on them.
Jennifer Morrison ("Warrior") stars as Emma Swan, the woman tasked with saving the fairy-tale world and bringing back the happy endings. Morrison says that there's much more to the series than the familiar faces, like Snow White, and that the show is about something bigger and much more relatable.
"It's relationship driven. There is this sort of underlying universal thing," Morrison said. "We're in a time in our lives where the economy's kind of tough and jobs are tough, a lot of struggles people are facing. In a sense, our show really represents that in the curse that is on the characters and the hope that there is a way out, that you can band together and find a way out."
Taking such a fantastical premise and making it about something real is a trick Horowitz and Kitsis say they learned from their time working on another sweeping fantasy epic, "Lost." The creators cite the character-driven drama of "Lost" and that show's executive producers, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, for giving them the direction and recipe for a successful outlandish drama series.
"I think that the important thing that Damon and Carlton always told us was that it's about character first, although the fairy tale is fun, and Storybrooke's fun," Kitsis says. "Like, oh my god, that's Grumpy in a scene with Little Red Riding Hood. If you don't care about the characters and you don't care about their struggles, for us it's important that they're not just animated characters."
For any TV show with even the most tenuous connections to "Lost," there will be questions of whether there is an overall arch already planned. Horowitz and Kitsis say they know where they want to take it but are waiting to see how viewers react first. "You can really only take those big picture ideas and then look at what's right in front of you and try to tell the best story you can, and we'll see what the audience says," Horowitz explained.
To clarify further, Kitsis offered up an analogy. "It's kind of like we're on a road trip. We know we want to get to New York eventually, but if we see a large potato in Idaho we have to go see, then we're going to veer off and see it," Kitsis says.
"Once Upon a Time" premieres this Sunday on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. CT.

Some of the stars of the upcoming "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" will be hitting the road next month for a barnstorming tour to jack Twilighters up even more about the penultimate film in the vamps-and-werewolves saga.
Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz and Elizabeth Reaser will pile into the van (OK, probably a plane) for a five-city tour from November 7 to 11 that will hit Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco and Salt Lake City, just one week before the movie hits screens (November 18). They will be joined by singer and "Breaking Dawn" soundtrack contributor Christina Perri on the first three dates. Three other soundtrack contributors — Aqualung, Lucy Schwartz and Sleeping at Last — will be on hand for the final two shows.
Tickets for the appearances are free and will be available beginning at 10 a.m. local time Saturday, November 5, at each location, with a two-ticket-per-person limit. Each event will feature a red-carpet arrival followed by the mini-concert.
If you just can't wait that long, tune in to MTV at 7:54 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 26, to see the debut of the video for the first single from the "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" soundtrack, "It Will Rain," from Bruno Mars.
The "Rain" video will feature a never-before-seen clip from the film. Immediately following the video's premiere, the action switches over to MTV.com for a live stream featuring MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway's exclusive interview with Mars, plus "Twilight" music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, who will discuss everything about the "Breaking Dawn" soundtrack.
"After seeing the movie, I thought that it would be a perfect fit," Mars told Billboard last month about the lead single from the soundtrack. "The 'Twilight' movies for me [are] a love story. But it's a dark love story," he added. "And I think the best way to describe the song is: It's the darker side of love. I think that pretty much sums it up."
Mars will also be answering your video and text questions, which you can submit starting today at MTV.com or via Twitter using the hashtag #AskBruno.
The "Twilight" tour dates are:
» 11/7 - Atlanta, GA @ The Buckhead Theatre (Greene, Reed, Facinelli, Rathbone and Perri)
» 11/8 - Chicago, IL @ House of Blues (Greene, Reed, Facinelli, Rathbone, Lutz, Reaser and Perri)
» 11/9 - Dallas, TX @ The Palladium Ballroom at Gilley's Dallas (Greene, Reed, Facinelli, Rathbone and Perri)
» 11/10 - San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore (Greene, Reed, Facinelli, Rathbone with Aqualung, Schwartz and Sleeping at Last)
» 11/11 - Salt Lake City, UT @ The Rail Event Center (Greene, Reed, Facinelli, Rathbone with Aqualung, Schwartz and Sleeping at Last)

Critics praise the lavish costumes and photography, but say some performances would get 'drummed out of a school play.'

Back in September, when MTV News caught up with "The Three Musketeers" director Paul W.S. Anderson, he promised audiences a swashbuckling good time when his latest movie hits theaters. Now that its release date is finally here, fans can judge it for themselves.
Based on the beloved and familiar tale of adventure, intrigue and that famous "All for one, and one for all" motto, the film features an ensemble cast: Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Ray Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans, Juno Temple, James Corden and Mads Mikkelsen.
Critics seem to enjoy the film's just-for-fun factor and hi-tech visuals — especially the ornate costumes. Speaking to the performances and continuity, however, it seems the critical collective found some aspects lacking in those departments.
Without further ado, let's unsheathe our swords and swashbuckle our way through "The Three Musketeers" reviews:
The Remake vs. the Dumas Original "It is absolutely, intensely and resolutely daft. For some reason, Anderson and his scripters Alex Litvak and Andrew Davies decided that the one thing the novels were missing was huge f---ing airships. With machine guns. And flame-throwers. Also, it's not enough that Athos (Macfadyen, moody), Aramis (Evans, cool) and Porthos (Stevenson, big) be Musketeers. They must also be an 18th-century blend of Ethan Hunt, James Bond and Batman who have to tackle OTT, Indiana Jones-style deathtraps. Meanwhile, why go to Dumas for your zings, when you can just plunder other movies? One entire exchange is lifted from 'A Fistful of Dollars,' and 'Princess Bride' scribe William Goldman might want to be checking his pockets. Elsewhere, Lerman's D'Artagnan is a smug, charmless little creep, James Corden's Planchet squeezes out 'comic relief' like he's constipated." — Dan Jolin, Empire
The Performances "Previously reliable actors such as Christoph Waltz (as the scheming Cardinal Richelieu), Matthew MacFadyen (as the disillusioned musketeer Athos) and Mads Mikkelsen (as the one-eyed Rochefort) seem content to take the money and look vaguely embarrassed. Some inferior thesps, such as Logan Lerman (a colorless, surfer-dude D'Artagnan), the director's wife Milla Jovovich (vapid when she should be mysterious) and Orlando Bloom (a useless drip as the dastardly Buckingham) give performances that would get them drummed out of a school play. Saving graces include the lavish costumes, widescreen photography and French architecture, even though the film was shot in Germany." — Chris Tookey, Daily Mail
The Visuals "For an action film, there's an awful lot of foppish discussion about clothes going on. But what glorious clothes they are. Pierre-Yves Gayraud's exquisitely detailed outfits steal scene after scene, in particular the women's gowns, all intricate silk brocades shot through with metallic threads and glinting like jewels. Glen MacPherson's digital lensing has been balanced in post in such a way to let the electric blues on the king's guards' uniforms pop just a bit more intensely, especially in the many bright, sunlit rooms (a mix of Bavarian locations and sets at Berlin's Studio Babelsberg) deployed for the palace scenes. The use of 3D rather limits the fluidity of the action sequences, which ought to be Anderson's strong suit, but it does nothing but favors for Paul Denham Austerberry's rococo production design." — Leslie Felperin, Variety
The Final Word, Pro-Con-Pro Style "Director Paul W.S. Anderson's film is far from perfect but there's plenty to enjoy in this occasionally bonkers remake. But it begins to buckle under the sheer number of characters. From Orlando Bloom's villainous Buckingham to Milla Jovoich's devious Milady to James Corden's comical Planchet there are about five too many and they've all got more lines than the heroes. The musketeers are reduced to supporting characters in their own movie. Clearly this is trying to grab a slice of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' pie and, while not as polished as 'Stranger Tides,' this is more fun. The sequel-baiting end may be a bit optimistic though." — Alex Zane, the Sun
"What it lacks in abundance, alas, is élan, panache or joie de vivre. Instead, a series of over-cooked set pieces (an opening raid on a Venice vault, a dirigible face-off above Notre Dame) turn what might have been a zesty frolic into one huge, lumbering behemoth. Who cares if the Musketeers retrieve the diamond necklace on which the marriage and security of France's callow young king (Freddie Fox) depends? Not us, and not Anderson either, the 'Resident Evil' director seeming more concerned with giving wife Jovovich extra scenes and setting up a sequel few will hanker for. All for one maybe, but one for all? Not quite. Although starry, lavish and superficially spectacular, this version of the perennial old favourite isn't likely to endure." — Neil Smith, Total Film
"We know we shouldn't have, but we enjoyed this. For, amid the guilty pleasures of the ludicrous 'war machines' and Orlando Bloom's even more ludicrous hairdo (as spaniel/fox/Lesley Phillips-hybrid Buckingham) there are some guiltless ones in the traditionally choreographed fencing, including a superb climactic cathedral-roof duel between Lerman's D'Artagnan and Mads Mikkelsen's nefarious Rochefort. Also, l'il D aside, the Musketeers are well cast, and enjoy an easy chemistry — enough for us to actually not dread the likelihood of a sequel. Actually, sod it: we'd look forward to the sequel. Even if it means more airships." — Dan Jolin, Empire
